Incoming 7th and 8th Graders

Welcome to John Barrett Middle School!

We would like to invite your incoming student to join us on Friday August 7th  between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Pick up your schedule, tour the campus, and learn about Middle School!

Schedules are available for pickup only for students whose guardians have completed the Annual Information Update. Visit www.sanjuan.edu/parentportal to update your information prior to your visit.

If you are unable to come to campus prior to the start of school, schedules, textbooks, and planners will be provided to students on the first day of school.

Our first day of school is Thursday August 13, 2026. School starts at 8:00 a.m. and dismisses at 2:45 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and on Fridays. On Thursdays school dismisses at 1:30 p.m. Our office opens 30 minutes prior to the start of school and closes 30 minutes after dismissal.

Other Important Information:

All incoming 7th grade students are required by California State Law to provide proof of the following immunizations prior to attending school:

·         MMR booster

·         Varicella booster

·         Tdap booster

The Annual Student Information Update must be completed for your student to receive their schedule! Visit www.sanjuan.edu/parentportal to login and complete the following requirements:

  1. Update Emergency Contact Information
  2. Complete the School Funding Form
  3. Review and acknowledge receipt of the 2024-2025 Family Handbook
  4. Review your family demographic information

Fall Picture Day is Friday September 25, 2026. After photos are taken, student IDs will be distributed to students and picture purchasing information will be sent home.

CAASPP Testing Dates for the 26-27 school year are April 19-22nd. School will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. each day that week. Please do not schedule any appointments during testing days.

Student Planners are provided to all students at the beginning of each school year. Students are expected to have the planner with them each school day.  The Barrett Family Handbook is included at the beginning of each planner.  Please be sure you and your student familiarize yourself with that information and sign the acknowledgments. You can also find the Handbook and other important information here on our website. Additional planners can be purchased in the front office for a small fee.

Donations Needed. The Barrett Science Department requests a lab donation of $20 to cover  the cost of lab activities.  The Barrett Electives Department requests a small donation to cover the cost of consumable materials.  Donations can be made online at myschoolbucks.com or in person by check/cash with your student’s teacher after the start of the school year.
